Online Election Coverage – All You Can Eat

Internet publishers have produced a range of excellent sites and minisites for Election 08.  With this kind of coverage it’s unlikley a single election pledge, kissed baby or faux pas will go unrecorded.

Here’s a selection of what’s on offer (and note, most have advertising and sponsorship options available):

The Scoop election site is uncluttered in design and rich in insight thanks to Editor Gordon Campbell

TV3’s site contains headlines, polls, party pages, “fun” stuff such as a whack-a-politician game and ‘if politicians were cars’ satirical drawings. The levity is balanced with blogs by Duncan Garner, John Campbell and others. And it has a digital clock countdown to election day.

TVNZ’s site has news, video, Colmar Brunton poll results and blogs by Guyon Espiner and Therese Arseneau.  They are also making history by calling for kiwis to ask questions of the Helen Clark and John Key trough YouTube.  Hear Mark Sainsbury explain how it works here: http://nz.youtube.com/debate

Fairfax Stuff: Vote 08 has news: features, profiles and polls. Opinion comes from the Inside the Beltway team and Bill Ralston’s Media Scrum. Candidate section, videos, photos and political cartoons.

APN Herald and Herald on Sunday: A repository of coverage, commentary and analysis from the papers, nicely supplemented with reader feedback in the Your Views section.

And for a youth perspective the guys at tearaway have a helpful guide to the parties and the politicians.  Still not sure why 87% of respondents think Helen Clark looks like Katie Holmes – not even the airbrushed version.
